History
1998
It was the 90s and his father, Vitor Rocha, was already working in the business of recycling, especially in the collection of paper and cardboard from commerce and some of the local industries. However, in 1998, an important step was taken towards the future of this family micro-business. At that time, the son, Nuno Rocha, completes his military service and, together with his father, decides to join forces and establish RECOFRADES, based in their home land.
The Company began by continuing the previous work, that is, by working merely with paper. As a result of the new family dynamics, Management expanded the business to include plastic. With the normal operation of the Company other wastes have been incorporated, such as glass, metals and wood packaging.
2003
In 2003, the growth of the company led them to look for and rent an industrial pavilion to house its sorting operations and reconditioning of materials to be sent to final recycling destinations. A few years later, in 2007, these facilities were bought by RECOFRADES. This new phase of the Company was not limited to the investment in facilities, but also included the acquisition of trucks, containers and, consequently, the hiring of more staff in the Company. In 2003, the first paper and carton bailing machine was purchased.
2017
It was on the 15th of October when “all the effort and investment made in the Company” literally vanished. The large fire that hit the central region of the country completely annihilated RECOFRADES’ facilities and equipment, in addition to all the material in stock. “I did not see firemen, there was no water in the fire hydrant because there was no water coming from the water supply network, there was no way to extinguish the fire” – Nuno Rocha (Observador, 10/18/2017).
A national tragedy that deeply affected this family business and that without a doubt affected the confidence of this Business man. But that lasted but a few hours. Nuno Rocha did not want to abandon what he and his Father had built themselves. The day after losing everything, just like the rebirth of the Phoenix, Nuno Rocha immediately began the process of rebuilding of the company from the ashes. It was then possible to lease another industrial warehouse and start looking for solutions to build new facilities in the same location and acquire new equipment.
2018

As a result of great commitment, effort and exceeding all of the capabilities of the RECOFRADES Team, it was on October 15, 2018, that the new facilities of the Company were inaugurated, operating with new industrial equipment. However, the Management of RECOFRADES were sure to acknowledge that during this arduous task, it could count on the understanding and collaboration of Clients, Suppliers, Local and Government Entities, such as CCDR-C.
